Exordium, tergiversation, unguents...these are not typos; they are just a few of the words spelled correctly by participants in our school spelling bee on Thursday.  Ultimately, the winner was sixth grader Nathan Vani, who finally prevailed over runner-up Chloe Pacyga with a correct spelling of the word "crockery".  On his way to this win he had to contend with words like "jacquerie" and "auf Wiedersehen", but he didn't miss a beat. Congratulations to Nathan, who earned the chance to represent St. Peter at the regional spelling bee in March and compete against champions from other schools for the opportunity to participate in the national bee in Washington D. C. Thanks so much for the impressive preparation and comportment of ALL the spellers. Great job!

January Sermon Series: Life hands us Giant things to deal with in the form of the Past, the Future, Loneliness, Depression, Anxiety, Failure and Stress. Jesus hands us the Holy Spirit of God to be with us in the midst of life’s Giants. Therefore just as David did not fear Goliath, we do not need to fear the Giants in our lives. Christ has already gained victory over all of them! Come hear the good news of God’s power and comfort that you can apply directly to whatever Giants you face in this life.

On Saturday, January 26, from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., Dr. Daniel Coupland will lead a presentation in Lutheran North's library entitled The Freedom to Teach: Rediscovering the Fundamentals of Good Instruction. Dr. Daniel Coupland is an Associate Professor and Chairman of the Education Department at Hillsdale College. He will discuss essential features of sound pedagogy and contrast these practices with modern notions of teaching popularized by the Education Establishment today. He will review what is required of the teacher, the student, and the lesson itself in order for true and lasting education to occur. He will also provide insight on how today's educators can recapture in their own classrooms time-tested principles of good teaching that will ultimately lead to the cultivation of both wisdom and virtue. This is a FREE presentation and perfect for parents, administrators, and teachers. Please contact John Brandt if you have any questions.
